The recipient is in charge of the 'construction crew' and then all enjoy the successes and learn from the failures.
Fair warning: potato cannons are powerful and will knock a hole in siding if your aim is off target! Fun while learning is the best gift to give, and as my grandsons will attest, to receive.A rating of Backyard BallisticsPosted 2/28/2018 by Ann Biggs- GRANDPARENTRating:4 out of 5My grandson loves the idea of do-it-yourself experiments and construction. He has big plans and has built the potato launcher already. He is 11 years old, so he is learning a lot about proper materials and ratings.

He wants to make the items but doesn't understand how.Information about Backyard BallisticsPosted by kathy hRating:3 out of 5I returned this item because I should have read the preview before I ordered it. Too much reading for a kid who doesn't like to read; too much adult interaction required for our circumstances.

I hate to say this book speaks to the boys but it does. I'm sure there are a few little girls who would enjoy building a potato cannon but I know for sure the two brothers browsing through this book were very excited to see all of the things they could build.Backyard Ballistics is a hit!Posted 11/8/2017 by Sarah HarperRating:5 out of 5My grandson turned 13 and he's a very intelligent young man - like all grandmas say - but he is actually two years ahead in reading. This book was a hit because it has neat things to blow up, but also the history of the ballistics as well.
The two combined offer him fun and information - which he loves. Great gift.A rating of Backyard BallisticsPosted 4/24/2017 by Chantel CRating:5 out of 5It been a battle shopping for my brother and finding something he genuinely likes. He was excited about his gifts and had his head stuck in the book.
He was eager to plan when to do the projects when normally its hard to get him excited about doing most things. It definitely caught his interest and he's enjoying his gifts. Also keeps 10 year old busy, so mom can take care of baby sister:-)cool bookPosted 8/14/2014 by Babe Bell-Shaw- GRANDPARENTRating:4 out of 5I bought this book for my grandsons birthday but after receiving it, I gave it to my husband instead. Backyard Ballistics has some great material, (we are building a spudgun as we speak.) But, it might get a teenage boy into trouble should he and his friends try to build rockets, catapults, spudguns, etc.
Without adult supervision. The book does advise 0ver and over again the importance of safety but I fear boys may just overlook that part.
That being said, I fully expect my husband toGreat EntertainmentPosted 1/6/2014 by Ginger BusockerRating:5 out of 5My son who does not like to read yet likes science, this has gotten him to read and make science creations.A rating of Backyard BallisticsPosted by Donald Wion- GRANDPARENTRating:4 out of 5Thought it was to much for an eleven year old. Not only is he reading but he is super excited and demands that dad look at the various chapters and projects with him. Many of the projects are dangerous so I would only advise giving this to a kid with competent adult supervision, or else maybe 14 years or older. My rating of Backyard BallisticsPosted - GRANDPARENTRating:5 out of 5I had great difficulty wrapping this gift, as many men I know all wanted to read it first.
